The Texas Attorney General has sued Texas solar panel manufacturer 1SolTech Inc. in state court for alleged deceptive trade practices, asserting the company is wrongly claiming its products are made in the U.S. when they are actually imported from China. Based on reports by the Dallas Morning News and Law360, a Travis County district judge granted the state request for a temporary restraining order against 1SolTech owners Sandra Fardi and Hossein Fardi, that prevents them from mislabeling the national origin of its panels. The attorney general said 1 SolTech purchased $2 million worth of solar panels from a Chinese manufacturer earlier this year and then passed them off to customers as manufactured in Texas.
A 1 SolTech spokesperson could not address any specific claim but said the company was manufacturing solar panels at their facility in Farmer’s Branch, Texas and blamed the state action on a former executive who left the company earlier this year. Investigators from the Attorney General’s Office said the fraud began in response to less expensive Chinese solar panels flooding the U.S. market. Unable to compete in price, 1 SolTech began importing the Chinese panels and would then affix their own company label before shipping them off to their customers, according to a press release Thursday. The solar company bid on federal stimulus projects that had a Buy American provision.
